Abstract:
The university library is a service production function composed of elements such as management, resources, functions, and innovative spirit, whose sole purpose is service innovation. Service innovation is the process of organically coupling the creativity of librarians with the specific needs of readers, thereby creating a unified approach. The clearer the understanding of the first principles and underlying logic of service innovation, the better the coupling of the two elements, and the more concise and effective the service innovation. The organizational forms of service innovation in university libraries include library organizations, service innovation alliances, reader toolkits, service innovation networks, and service innovation ecosystems. Through service innovation, they alter the service cost curve, seek dynamic efficiency, effectively meet reader needs, and demonstrate the market legitimacy of the university library’s existence.
